Santa Rita Winesby Allen
Good Value Wines from Argentina
Argentina’s Santa Rita Winery has created an intriguing lineup of well-priced varietals for your delectation. In this season of entertaining, when quantity as well as quality influence the wine selection process, the more choices, the better. ![]() This line of well-priced varietals honors 120 Argentine patriots who took refuge at the Santa Rita estate in 1814, saved by the winery’s matriarch. The wines provide tasty examples of each grape variety: Neither thin nor tepid, they are mouthfilling, with plenty of body and character.
Stainless steel keeps the whites zesty and fresh. Fermentation in stainless steel prevents oxidation and wood flavors to intrude upon the fruit element. Acid levels remain spritely, making the wines easy to pair with food while also delicious to drink by themselves. The reds enjoy good structure with light tannins that give them presence without harshness. Focused fruit and appropriate oak produce directly delicious yet complex wines. Having wines to pull from the wine rack at any time means you are ready when company unexpectedly comes by or the urge for a nice glass of wine arises. Santa Rita bottles the 120 line with convenient screw caps. Since tainted corks rank as perhaps the main reason for off bottles, that’s a good thing. Mulled Wine Mulled wine is a treat to serve on cold days and for large gatherings. To make mulled you heat wine with sweetening, spices, fruit and other ingredients. You could call it the winter version of sangria. It’s delicious! Here is one recipe. Santa Rita’s red wines work well in this recipe.
