Serradenari Barolo 2005
Attractive ripe fruit, showing milk chocolate, cedar and dried mushroom character. Full-bodied and luscious, with chewy tannins and a berry, chocolate aftertaste. Not imported into the U.S. Best after 2010.
Winemaker Roberto Cipresso has shaped this wine from the highest Nebbiolo vineyards in Barolo. He also seems to have added a ton of oak to his recipe. The wine is redolent of burnt bread, campfire and charcoal. There's fruit in there somewhere but it's hard to find at this stage. Give it a few more years to stretch its legs. M.L.
